When Will Things Like This Stop??

RIVERHEAD - Authorities say an Amityville woman has been charged with animal cruelty after she dumped two extremely ill pit bull puppies at the Riverhead Animal Hospital. Officials say Swaneka P.J. Danzler, 21, admitted she dumped the puppies in a well outside the hospital back on Dec. 18. The Suffolk County SPCA says the puppies had severe mange and were both near death when they were dumped in a 6-foot well. One of the dogs later died. The SPCA had offered a reward for information in the case. Long Island News 12** I can not tell you how much this disgust me. I am furious when I hear things like this. I was eating dinner with my husband when this came on the news. We had to shut it off and I had a pit in my stomach and wanted to cry. I was so sad all night when I heard this. These people need to serve years of jail time!! What did these innocent little puppies ever do to deserve this? I wonder how this woman would feel if she was beaten and thrown down a flight of stairs some where. I call this person a sick and evil individual. I hope this haunts her for the rest of her life in jail. Please pray for both of these puppies..one struggling to survive and the one that went over the Rainbow Bridge to Heaven.

The Gift Of A Pet

A pets love is one of God's greatest gifts Always there for you Their love never lifts. A pet is a friend to treasure and love, A gift from the heavens, A gift from above. When you look into your pet's trusting eyes, Something is there That no one can disguise. It's a look of complete love and something to admire, It makes your heart melt And sets your soul afire. When the day comes for you and him to part, Your pet's soul is still with you, He is still in your heart. And at the Bridge he does what he used to, Running, playing, jumping And waiting for you. And when you do enter heaven forever, You find your still loving pet And cross the Rainbow Bridge together. ~unknown

God Bless The Victims and Their Families

Dear Santa, You know that I write you, around this time each year. And I know that you're busy with all the toys and reindeer. This time I'm not asking for gifts or any Christmas snow I'm writing to you this year cause there's something you should know. Look through your stack of letters or perhaps use your list I know you're oh so busy but I really must insist There's only about 20 names that you should find. This is my only wish this year, Santa I hope that you don't mind Those special boys and girls whose names I do not know They got taken away today so I'm afraid that you won't go Those kids may not need you but their mommies surely will Their daddies' hearts need some mending of the holes it's torn in them So please take my presents and change them into hugs And throw them down their chimneys with all your Christmas love. And for the man who did this while, I want to be so cruel Give some hugs to his family from me, because I'm sure they'll need them too Brandon Kelley 12/14/2012

Dogs And the Annoying Christmas Fire Trucks

I do not want to be a Christmas Humbug and I know there will be people that do not agree with me, but this needs to be said. Why do the fire trucks need to blast the sirens around the neighborhoods to let everyone know Santa is here. I understand it is for the children, but do you have any idea what is it doing to the dog population. To them it is just as bad as fire works which I will talk about another day. It drives the dogs crazy and it is a very sad thing to see. Couldn't the fire departments send out schedules to each town when Santa will tour the neighborhood? Then they would not need to use sirens and any loud bells to announce they were coming. I think it is great what the Fire Department does and I even love it, but minus the sirens. I would love to hear from everyone with your thoughts. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Christmas Dog Safety

The holidays are a time of celebration, but we need to make sure our dogs are protected. There are possible hazards this time of year.

  • Food Hazards  (fruits, nuts and chocolate) Can cause digestive problems and be fatal. Cooked bones can splinter and choke your dog.
  • Holiday Plants (Poinsettia, Mistletoe, Holly) These are all poisonous to dogs.
  • Christmas Trees ( All kinds) The tree oils can be toxic. The tree  needles can cause obstruction to the dogs throat and stomach. Tree water is already dangerous and more so if a chemical is put in the water. Keep the dog away!
  • Christmas Ornaments (All ornaments are dangerous) Tinsel can make a dog choke and block the intestinal tract.
  • Electrical wires and lights. Dogs may be intrigued to go to a shining light.  He may get a shocking surprise!
The best thing to do is just make sure your dog keeps away from the tree.  Give your best friend a dog treat,  he will be happy and so will you. Your dog is part of the family so you must keep him safe too.

P.S. Don't even think of giving your pet a bit of bubbly!

My Shelter Days are numbered ten.
Ten more days until my end.

My Shelter Days are numbered eight.
Please adopt me. Change my fate.

My Shelter Days are numbered six.
Adopt a pet week, still no one's pick.

My Shelter Days are numbered four.
Four more days and then no more.

My Shelter Days are numbered two.
Someone will take me, I just don't know who.

My Shelter Days are numbered none.
I know I'm finished, then you come.

My Shelter Days are over, done,
Because you, my master, took me home.

National Cookie Day!

Today is National Cookie Day,  don't forget Fido! A good day to make those Apple Cheddar Dog Biscuits! Recipe on yesterdays blog. Happy Baking!!

Did you know?

The first cookies were created by accident. Cooks used a small amount of cake batter to test their oven temperature before baking a large cake. These little test cakes were called "koekje", meaning "little cake" in Dutch.

The Holiday Season

'Tis the holiday season, and all through the houseThe puppies are squeaking an old rubber mouse. The decorations which had merrily hung on the doorAre scattered in pieces, all over the floor.
The stockings that hung in a neat little row,Now boast a hole in each one of the toes. The tree was subjected to bright-eyed whims,And now, although splendid, it's missing some limbs.
I catch them and hold them, be good I insist. They lick me, then run off to see what they've missed. And now as I watch them, the thought comes to me,That theirs is the spirit all holidays should be.
Should Children and Puppies yet show us the way,And teach us the joy that should come with this season?Could they bring the message that's written above,And tell us that, most of all, Happiness is Love!!
