Thanksgiving Safey Tips

If you decide to give your dog a nibble of turkey, make sure it is boneless and well-cooked. If it is not well cooked  it may contain salmonella bacteria. Turkey bones are not good for your pet.

Do not give your pet any food that contains Sage. It may upset their stomachs and central nervous system.

According to the experts, do not give your dog raw dough. It may rise in their stomach and give them abdominal pain and may be life threatening.

It is ok to give your dog a few pieces of  Thanksgiving dinner, but do not over do it. If you do, you may wind up making your dog very sick. If you want to give your dog a Thanksgiving feast, how about some vegetables mixed in their food. They will be happy and so will you!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mary Cortani: CNN Heroes Top 10 Hero

On September 20, 2012, CNN announced the Top 10 heroes in their CNN Heroes program that celebrates ordinary people making extraordinary contributions to improve the lives of others. Mary Cortani is honored to have been named as one of the Top 10. To learn more about the program, or to vote for Mary, visit the CNN Heroes site. Remember you can vote up to 10 times per day per email address. We so appreciate your support for the work we’re doing.
In 2010, a former Marine approached Mary seeking assistance in acquiring a service dog to help him overcome anxiety disorders caused by combat hyper-vigilance. The multi-year waiting lists for trained dogs from existing organizations were just one more source of frustration for that returning vet.

The CNN voting campaign is a great opportunity to raise awareness about OFP’s mission and our veterans’ needs. If Mary wins, the $250,000 grand prize will help us acquire property for a permanent facility where they can foster more dogs and provide more training services to veterans and their service dogs. Thank you.

Dog Lovers

This blog is for all the dog lovers out there. Your faithful companion and best friend. He waits by the door  in anticipation for his friend to come home. Your dog is loyal and will try to please you in anyway he can. When you are upset or down about something, they are there. Pleasing you is one of their biggest traits as well. Dogs love walks and of course get that burst of energy that almost knocks you off your feet as they run .Our faithful friend is part of the family. They are there for us day and night. Dogs deserve the warmth and companionship they give us. We give them love and get it in return. Remember, they are just like a human household member. They deserve a loving home, so share your life with them. I know my life has always been enriched with the furry animal. I leave you with this quote:

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.  ~Roger Caras

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are starring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
