DOG OF THE WEEK " COLLIE "


  • Country of Origin: Scotland, England
  • Original use: Drover, herder
  • Group: Herding (akc) ;Herding dog(ukc)
  • Average Life Span: 11-14 yrs.
  • Color: Sable and white, tri-color(black,tan and white), blue merle and white.
  •  Coat: Two varieties: The rough coat is long, harsh textured; the smooth coat is short, dense and flat.  Both coasts have an abundant undercoat.
  • Grooming: Both varieties shed and require weekly brushing. Bathing is requited once a season.
  • Height/Weight: Males, 24-26 inches, 60-75 lbs. Femals, 22-24 inches, 50-65 lbs.
  • Personality: Intelligent, intuitive, sensitive, graceful and gracious.
  • Trainability: High
  • Activity level: Moderate
  • Known health problems: Collie eye anomaly, some drug sensitivities.
  • Good with children: Charming and playful with respectful children.
  • Good with other pets:  Generally good with other pets.
