Christmas Dog Safety

The holidays are a time of celebration, but we need to make sure our dogs are protected. There are possible hazards this time of year.

  • Food Hazards  (fruits, nuts and chocolate) Can cause digestive problems and be fatal. Cooked bones can splinter and choke your dog.
  • Holiday Plants (Poinsettia, Mistletoe, Holly) These are all poisonous to dogs.
  • Christmas Trees ( All kinds) The tree oils can be toxic. The tree  needles can cause obstruction to the dogs throat and stomach. Tree water is already dangerous and more so if a chemical is put in the water. Keep the dog away!
  • Christmas Ornaments (All ornaments are dangerous) Tinsel can make a dog choke and block the intestinal tract.
  • Electrical wires and lights. Dogs may be intrigued to go to a shining light.  He may get a shocking surprise!
The best thing to do is just make sure your dog keeps away from the tree.  Give your best friend a dog treat,  he will be happy and so will you. Your dog is part of the family so you must keep him safe too.

P.S. Don't even think of giving your pet a bit of bubbly!
